MALI - A school for N'Dienso

The village of N'Dienso is situated in the commune of Fangasso, a region of Segou, approximately 480 km to the northwest of Bamako.

The 1327 inhabitants of the village are of Bobo heritage and live principally off of agriculture (millet, sorghum, maize, fonio, and peanuts). They also cultivate cotton that they sell at the neighboring Campagnie Malienne du Textile.

The village has one borehole and some older traditional wells, which do not suffice in covering all of the needs of the population (water for domestic needs, market farming, banco and livestock).

The schools are not very developed in the zone. Creating a link between the teachings and the development of the future population, the villages and communes put in place an association for the construction and the development of community schools.

The head of the village of N'Dienso, president of this association, in agreement with the local authorities, contacted Eau Vive for some support in the construction of new classes.

N'Dienso is associated with two other villages, Momboro and Saaba, for the construction of the school.

The school will allow for the fulfillment of needs for education for these three villages, including 4850 inhabitants.

In these villages there exists traditional villager organizations called “Tons” (Voices) : women, youth.

These groups and associations have a goal of helping each other, using the mobilization of manpower for the execution of collective, lucrative work or of social investment.

Three teachers, put in charge by the villages, guarantee the functionality of the school with the support of the Association of the Student's Parents, which is the administration put in place for the management of the school. They will supervise the construction of the new school and will occupy themselves with the welcoming of the teachers who will be assigned by the Minister of Education.

Scholastic Infrastructures and Establishments Planning and Construction of the school

The building will be constructed according to the norms and vigor in Mali: 28m long and 9.3m wide. It will be divided into 3 identical classrooms. The metallic framework will be covered by with a leaf of rippled sheet metal. A ceiling will be put up with trellises as a ventilation system.

The supplies are calculated to be 72 white tables for the students, 4 desks and 6 chairs for the teachers and 4 metal armoires.

The latrines will be constructed to increase the decontamination and sanitation issues.

Three buildings for lodging for the teachers will be constructed in the proximity of the school.

Realization of an equipped borehole

In order to generate a healthy environment for the students, an equipped borehole with a manual pump will be constructed. It will equally represent a supplementary source of water for the village.

The surface plans will preserve the quality of water destined for drinking and will maintain the social live around the watering source and the security of the users.

A special board, that will guarantee the quality and the conformity of the work and the supplies, will oversee all of the work.

Establishment of the protection of the environment and reforestation

In the framework of the environmental education, an education program for the protection of the environment will be taught to the students.

It aims to sensitize the students to their environment and it's protection. It will accompany a project where the students will plant trees, which will allow the restoration of the layered vegetable cover of the zone.

Establishment of the APE and a literacy center

The success of the instruction in the rural environment demands a lot of commitment from the parents of students for the mobilization and the sensitization of the families for the management and follow-up on the school on the administrative plan, equipment, social and financial.

To this effect, an establishment for literacy and strengthening of the skills of the bureau of the Association of the Student's Parents is planned.
