TOGO

The country possesses a narrow coast (53 km) on the Atlantic Ocean, which opens inland to hills and a crystalline mountainous plateau. Over a distance of around 600 km, the humid savannah of the south transforms into a dry desert in the north.

In the 1970s, phosphate deposits brought unexpected wealth to the country and despite the drop in price since the early 1980's, they still represent a significant volume of exports.

And yet, Togo, which is counted today among the poorest countries in the world, has still not succeeded in establishing a real production and processing sector. A large part of the economy is based on agriculture and farming, and only the raw products, cotton, cocoa and green coffee, are exported.

The state of Togo has recently undertaken commitments in favor of greater democracy (press, electoral code, talks with the opposition.) which would constitute a favorable basis for the development of civil society, and would permit Togo to stabilize relations with the European Union which have been broken since 1993.

EAU VIVE TOGO

Since 1983, Eau Vive has supported projects and programs in the savannah region, in the Sahelian zone of north Togo.

Actions mainly concern the training and equipping of well-drillers, the construction of wells, the fight against soil erosion and sanitary education.

The projects and programs are currently monitored by the Eau Vive Ougadougou (Burkina Faso) Team while they are waiting for a branch to open in Dapaong
